The Great Wave off Kanagawa

Oil on canvas, 120 x 90 x 2 cm, original 2200,- €.

The Great Wave off Kanagawa(jap. 神奈川沖浪裏 Kanagawa oki nami ura), actually under the wave in the sea off Kanagawa, is the title of a woodblock print by the Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai. The pressure is one of Hokusai’s Series ” 36 Views of Mount Fuji ” , which was 1830-1832. It shows three boats coming from Edo in a wave off the coast of Kanagawa, in today’s homonymous municipality of Yokohama and in the backdrop Mount Fuji. The boats are of the type Oshiokuri – bune, about 12-15 m long boats for fish transport. The image is one of the world’s most famous portraits of Japanese art.

A very impressive picture that adorns every room.
